Stories from our female sailors; Caroline Whitehouse.

I am a third generation sailor with my grandparents having frequented Earlswood and Barnt Green sailing club.

I started sailing at Chelmarsh where my parents still sail today. It all began when I was around 8 years old, in an Optimist and I soon found that I enjoyed the feeling of competing with adults and beating them in the pursuit races in my topper.

I went on to sail a Laser Radial in the GBR Youth Squad and did many large events with varying degrees of success.

I moved into sailing an RS400 about 14 years ago and enjoyed more competitive sailing. The sensation of sailing a 400 at sea in 25 knots is a thrill that cannot be matched elsewhere.

Nowadays I enjoy sailing my RS 400 at the club and every time I sail there is something new to learn. I am hoping my daughters will start to enjoy sailing in the next couple of years to follow the family theme.
