RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course Overview
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is a 2-day course, designed to give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to safely take charge of a powerboat in both inland and coastal waters.
Led by our experienced RYA instructors, you will spend plenty of time on the water practicing key skills, covering everything from close-quarters handling to high-speed manoeuvres and man overboard recovery.
Across two days, you'll develop both practical boat handling skills and essential theory, including navigation, weather, tides, passage planning, and collision regulations.
By the end of the course, you will feel confident in operating a powerboat safely and responsibly in a variety of situations.
This course is conducted in planing craft.

- Launching and recovery from a slipway
- Close quarters boat handling
- High-speed manoeuvres and handling at planing speed
- Man-overboard recovery techniques
- Securing to a buoy and anchoring
- Collision regulations and rules of the road
- Basic navigation, weather, tides and passage planning
- Safety equipment and best practice afloat

| Minimum Age: | 12yrs+ if aged 12-15 years, the certificate will be endorsed, and the holder must only use a powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult |
| Previous Experience: | None but may be preceded by RYA Level 1 Start Powerboating |

| Buoyancy Aid: | Must be worn you may wear your own if you have one, but Buoyancy aids can be provided for the course if required |
