RYA Youth Sailing Scheme - Start Sailing Stage 4

Check our latest availability for RYA Youth Sailing Stage 4 here.

Overview

This course focused on techniques and manoeuvres to sail crewed boats as well as developing the ability to solve a wide range of problems while afloat. This builds on the independent sailing skills developed on the Stage 3 course with an emphasis on double handed sailing, both as a helm and crew.

Led by our experienced RYA instructors, children will be coached to build on their skills developed in previous stages, developing teamworking skills as they work together to sail double handed dinghies, including the use of the jib, crew roles and clear communication on the water.

By the end of the course, children will be able to demonstrate the ability to sail a double-handed boat on all points of sail, as well as launch and return to a beach, jetty, or mooring in moderate conditions.

What you will learn

  • Transferring pre-learnt skills, techniques and manoeuvres to sail crewed boats
  • Enhance rigging skills to more complex boats
  • Better launching and recovery skills
  • Practical skills to recover a man overboard
