Overview
This course provides an initial introduction to sailing for beginners, covering all the basics and key information. Participants will gain a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge and be able to sail the boat around a triangular course.
Led by our experienced RYA instructors, you will spend plenty of time on the water practicing key skills and manoeuvres, such as tacking and gybing building confidence and independence afloat. Key seamanship skills including basic ropework and sailing theory will be developed through the course
By the end of the course, you will be able to sail in light winds under supervision.
What you will learn
- How to sail in all directions relative to the wind
- Basic steering, sail handling, and boat control (tacking and gybing)
- Launching and recovering a dinghy safely
- Understanding basic sailing rules and safety on the water

Buoyancy Aid: |
Must be worn - you may wear your own if you have one, but Buoyancy aids can be provided for the course if required |

Clothing: |
The training will be mostly on the water, and you should be prepared for all kinds of weather. We will lend you wetsuits, buoyancy aids and spray tops if required (or you are welcome to wear your own if you have them). You will need:
