Overview

The Level 3 provides further coaching to consolidate the skills learned during Level 1 - Start Sailing, and Level 2 - Basic Skills, improve your sailing and provide a clear pathway into more advanced skills. Short taster sessions from the RYA advanced sailing modules such as Seamanship skills and Spinnaker sailing. This is a perfect course for continuing to develop the confidence needed to step out into the world of sailing.

Led by our experienced RYA instructors, you will spend plenty of time on the water practicing key skills and manoeuvres and being coached to consolidate your boat handling skills and trying new skills in a variety of conditions.

By the end of the course, you will be sailing faster and more efficiently and be ready to take on more advanced sailing skills.

What you will learn

  • Advanced boat handling and steering techniques
  • Sail trim and sail balance for optimal performance
  • Launching and recovery in a variety of conditions
  • Capsize recovery and self-rescue under more challenging scenarios
  • Enhanced understanding of wind, tide, and water conditions
  • Safety awareness and decision-making on open water
  • Introduction to advanced sailing modules such as spinnakers or seamanship skills (tasters depending on conditions and experience)

Duration:

2 Days (or equivalent number of hours)

Age:

16+ years (Participants under 16 should consider our Youth Sailing Courses)

Previous Experience:

Sailing skills to the standard of Level 2 Basic Skills

Price:

£XXX includes tuition, equipment use and RYA certificate

Club Member Price: £XX

Timings:

9:30 - 17:00 with a break for lunch around midday

Buoyancy Aid:

Must be worn - you may wear your own if you have one, but Buoyancy aids can be provided for the course if required

Clothing:

The training will be mostly on the water, and you should be prepared for all kinds of weather. We will lend you wetsuits, buoyancy aids and spray tops if required (or you are welcome to wear your own if you have them).

You will need:

  • Swimming costume for under the wetsuit
  • Towel
  • Closed toed shoes that you are prepared to get wet, or wetsuit shoes i.e. no flipflops or sandals
