Cecily and Freya become Day Skippers

Published 18:17 on 6 Aug 2021
Our theory course was 6 days of intense zoom classes, two of which were spent talking about tides!
Ready to put our theory to the test we both packed (far too much) into Kerry's car and headed to Largs on the West coast of Scotland (where the tides are practically irrelevant anyway)
We arrived on Cec's birthday so her present was the 7 hour car journey with me haha
This actually makes Cec one of the youngest day skippers as to get the certificate you need to be 16
Cec had been up to largs for her competent crew course the year before and had not stopped talking (about it since) so it was great we were able to do our day skipper there with Go West Sailing
As it turns out lots of our dinghy knowledge was hugely beneficial in big boats so many skills just needed to be refined and our bowline loops made bigger
We did it!! With lots of cups of tea and winds up to force 6, we had a brilliant time, and are now both theoretical and practical fully qualified day skippers :)
So now we can sail anywhere from Portsmouth but we just can't drive to Portsmouth yet!
Hope you enjoyed reading about our life
