Commodores Corner

Dear Members,

I am writing to you with an update following our main committee meeting last night.

Firstly, we have excellent news that membership will not increase when renewals come around at the end of this month.  Any members with a standing order or direct debit will continue to have their membership taken from their account at the same rate.  Any cash payers will be contacted by the treasurer, but if you can get to us first with payment then even better, all rates are listed on the membership form on our website.

Last night's meeting was the first in the wake of the EGM and the minutes from the EGM have been produced and will be published on the club notice board sent out through Dutyman.  Any queries then please get in touch with me or one of the other flag officers.  Copies of the presentation are available for any members who were unable to attend.

Finally – advance warning that the club will be shut on the 12th May 2019 due to the Velo (Birmingham Cycling Event), coming along the dam wall.  I propose we work on submitting a team to ride the event.

On a personal note, if anybody has seen a laser foil bag lying around, its mine!  I am so busy being commodore that the rest of my life has gone to rack and ruin!

Hope to see you all out on the water in the next couple of weeks.

Commodore's Corner

Morning Folks,

I hope you all had a fun weekend, preferably with some sailing involved.

We RS 400's went to Notts County and were again met with amazing hospitality.  Sam and John Knight were flying the Bartley flag and came home with a 3rd place but the top 3 boats were so close.  Sam and John are regularly proving to be at the very top of the 400 fleet and their hard work and pererverance over the last couple of years is really paying off.  The treasurer and I had a more leisurely sail in the middle of the fleet and enjoyed the bar games on saturday night.

Later this week we will be producing a summary of the EGM and what was discussed and if anyone who couldn't attend would like further information then please contact me.

Hope to see as many of you out on the water as possible in the cooling winter months.

Best Wishes

Windsurf Store

Dear Members

If you have any equipment stored in the paid storage Windsurfing Container, you are reminded that all equipment must be clearly marked and identifiable.

As part of the ongoing tidy up of our club any surplus equipment that cannot be properly identified, or storage has not been paid for, is likely to be removed and disposed of in due course.

EGM - Date Set - 15th September 2018 - 17.00

Dear Club Members,

Thanks for your ongoing support with activities around the club.

Thanks to Steve Ward, Dave and Ed Badger for Wednesday evening training, I have chatted to some members and they have really been enjoying the sessions.

Thanks for those of you who have been getting involved with the mowing, I know it hasn't been required recently due to the scorched grass but again all the help makes our club look presentable for us all to use.

We have set a date for the EGM to discuss the club's current financial situation and any future plans which the committee have on board.  The EGM will take place on the 15th September 2018 at 17.00 in the club bar.

Following on the from the EGM there is a club social with prize giving which Simon will inform you all of in due course.

Happy Sailing Guys,

I am off to Lee on Solent this weekend

Success social

Dear Members,

As you are aware, Bartley SuperNova sailors have just been incredibly successful at their nationals at Pwllheli this weekend. A win from Sam Knight, first youth from Ed Higson and we won the team challenge, to name a few!

I propose we have a social In the club after sailing Tuesday 10th at 8.00 post sailing and raise a glass to our champions! Let’s get some support behind them!

if you can get in off the water in time, the first round of beers could be on me!

best wishes

Power Boat Training - Message from Dave Jones

It is essential that we have as many members as possible who have the skill and experience to drive the club rescue boats safely.

It is a requirement placed on us that all safety boat drivers have Level 2 powerboat qualification. We are providing this training "in house", so that Bartley members can gain this qualification without the cost of a commercial course, or attending another centre.

We have spaces on the next course being run over the 29th July and 5th Aug 2018. The course costs £30 to cover club costs.

Courses planned later this year (see club calendar):

23&30 Sept,

21&28 Oct

To book your space, please contact me (Dave Jones) via or phone:  07887 406585

First Aid Course

Rockley Training Room

9am arrival for a prompt 9:30am start

Rockley Watersports are running a First Aid course at Bartley SC on Sunday 14th July 2018.

We would like to invite members who need to renew their First Aid certificate or those who would like to learn new skills to join us.

And because it’s our first course we have decided to offer members 50% off !!!

If you have not done a First Aid course before this is a very enjoyable and informative course, so have a go, you never know when a bit of First Aid knowledge might be of help.

The one day RYA First Aid course covers all the usual first aid subjects, provides a working knowledge of these from a boating perspective and is aimed at anyone who goes afloat.

It also fulfils the requirements for anybody wishing to gain or maintain professional qualifications which require holding a valid first aid certificate.

During the course you will be issued with the latest edition of the RYA First Aid manual and certificate.

To book your space please talk to Benn at Rockley (07398 564 615 or ) or join apply online at https://rockley.cinolla.com/bartley/courses/rya-first-aid-2

Commodores Bulletin

Dear members,

Here is a little update from your incoming Commodore which I am writing whilst in Greece carrying out an inspection for the RYA.

Thanks to all who came to AGM-  the committee was grateful for members input and has taken on board concerns about poor communication - we will keep you updated from time to time.

Great to see so many of you the other Tuesday evening to meet your new commodore and committee. Let's try and build up the social side of the club.

We have gained several new members recently which is good news- we all have a part to play in welcoming new members into the club and offering help and support to get them on the water. Wednesday evening training is going really well and hopefully will give novice sailors confidence- thanks Steve Ward and his helpers.

I hope members notice how tidy the boat park is looking after Saturday's working party- thank you Simon and everyone who came along to help.

Finally please remember that this is YOUR club- if you have concerns, queries etc please do talk directly with one of the committee after we have been sailing. It is much better to be proactive rather than grumble away behind the scenes. Bartley is a great club and with Rockley coming 'on board' the future is bright.

Hope to see as many of you as possible on the water this weekend. I will be out in my new (but very old) laser!
